Rainbow Dream Catcher

Hey guys, welcome back to my blog!

So, my niece is turning 4 this month. I asked her what she wants for her birthday and she told me she wanted a rainbow dream catcher bigger than her! Apparently, she has very big scary dreams.

(Photo added for cuteness)

Anyway, I digress. I decided to design a dreamcatcher big and bold enough to fight off toddler monsters, check it out!

Difficulty: Easy

For this pattern you will need:

H hook

Scissors

Yarn needle

Beads

16-inch craft ring

11-inch craft ring

4-inch craft ring

(2) 3-inch craft ring

(2) 2.5- inch craft ring

Red Heart Super Saver Yarn in Cherry red

Red Heart Super Saver Yarn in Pumpkin

Red Heart Super Saver Yarn in Bright Yellow

Red Heart Super Saver Yarn in Paddy Green

Red Heart Super Saver Yarn in Econ Blue

Red Heart Super Saver Yarn in Soft Navy

Red Heart Super Saver Yarn in Amethyst

Abbreviations:

Ch - Chain

Sc – Single Crochet

Dc – Double Crochet

Sl St – Slip Stitch

Sk a St – Skip a Stitch

Scalloped Edging – Start by tying on your yarn to the outside of your dream catcher. *Ch 3, 7Dc in the same stitch. Skip 2 stitches, slip stitch into the 3rd stitch. 7Dc into the next* Repeat until you run out of stitches.

Notes:

·         This pattern can work with any size craft ring you have, just add or take away rows as it seems fit.

16-inch Ring

Amethyst

Row 1: 10DC into a magic circle, sl st (10)

Row 2: 2DC in each st around, sl st (20)

Soft Navy

Row 3: *2DC in the first st, 1DC in the next* Repeat around, sl st (30)

Row 4: *2DC in the first st, 1DC in the next 2 sts* Repeat around, sl st (40)

Econ Blue

Row 5: *2DC in the first st, 1DC in the next 3 sts* Repeat around, sl st (50)

Row 6: *2DC in the first st, 1DC in the next 4 sts* Repeat around, sl st (60)

Paddy Green

Row 7: *2DC in the first st, 1DC in the next 5 sts* Repeat around, sl st (70)

Row 8: *2DC in the first st, 1DC in the next 6 sts* Repeat around, sl st (80)

Bright Yellow

Row 9: *2DC in the first st, 1DC in the next 7 sts* Repeat around, sl st (90)

Row 10: *2DC in the first st, 1DC in the next 8 sts* Repeat around, sl st (100)

Pumpkin

Row 11: *2DC in the first st, 1DC in the next 9 sts* Repeat around, sl st (110)

Row 12: *2DC in the first st, 1DC in the next 10 sts* Repeat around, sl st (120)

Cherry Red

Row 13: *2DC in the first st, 1DC in the next 11 sts* Repeat around, sl st (130)

From here you should have a circle that looks about one row to short for your dream catcher. If you are using a different size than adjust the pattern accordingly so that your circle is still a row shorter than your ring. Next you are going to single crochet around both your circle and your craft ring. Once you have single crocheted all the way around, slip stitch and fasten off.

11-inch Ring

Amethyst

Row 1: 10DC into a magic circle, sl st (10)

Row 2: 2DC in each st around, sl st (20)

Soft Navy

Row 3: *2DC in the first st, ch 1. Sk a st, 2DC in the next st* Repeat around, sl st (30)

Econ Blue

Row 4: *1DC, ch1, sk a st, 2DC* Repeat around, sl st (40)

Paddy Green

Row 5: *1DC in the next 2 sts, ch 1. Sk a st, 2DC* Repeat around, sl st (50)

Bright Yellow

Row 6: *1DC in the next 3 sts, ch 1. Sk a st, 2DC* Repeat around, sl st (60)

Pumpkin

Row 7: *1DC in the next 4 sts, ch 1. Sk a st, 2DC* Repeat around, sl st (70)

Cherry Red

Row 8: *1DC in the next 5 sts, ch 1. Sk a st, 2DC* Repeat around, sl st (80)

Amethyst

Row 9: *1DC in the next 6 sts, ch 1. Sk a st, 2DC* Repeat around, sl st (90)

From here, I used Navy to sc around the 11-inch ring (because that was the next color in the color scheme). Feel free to use amethyst or any color that pleases you to single crochet around.

3 and 4-inch Rings

Using Bright Yellow, Pumpkin, and Econ Blue single crochet around each ring. Finnish off leaving a long LONG tail. Weave tail in and out around the ring creating a traditional looking dream catcher.

2.5-inch Rings

Using amethyst and cherry red, 20DC into a magic circle then sl st. Sc around ring, finish off and weave in tail.

Putting it Together:

I used 6 beads to attach the first 3 rings

4 beads to attach the next 2 rings

And 3 beads to attach the last 3 rings

Add more beads in between each ring to make the dream catcher taller, take them away to make it shorter

Adding Fridge

1.      Cut 20 strands of each color yarn about 100 inches long (or twice the size of the dream catcher)

2.      Insert hook through both loops on the side of the top dream catcher and pull 2 strands of one color up to create a loop. Thread tails of strands through the loop and pull until snug.

3.      Continue adding fringe along the side of the dream catcher alternating colors.

For the second, smaller dream catcher repeat steps 1 through 3. During step 1 cut 50 inch strands instead of 100 inch strands.

Trim the fringe along the bottom, matching the edge of the last dream catcher.

Scallop Edging

Depending on how much fringe you add, scallop edge all the stitches that are not being used.

There you have it! Dream catchers are new for me, but I definitely love them.

Leave a photo in the comments of some of the dream catchers you guys have made!

As always thank you for reading my blog, I love you guys. Happy Hooking!
